1923 In Beaufort, NC
Having lived in North Carolina only 10 years, I loved reading an intriguing plot built around the geography and history of the coastline in this state. I found myself frequently revisiting the map that Ms. Anger provided in order to accurately picture the events in her novel. Another element that helped me accurately picture the area was the cover, which lent itself well to the story; most covers are vague and could work for almost any book. My favorite parts of the book were the descriptions. Also, Ms. Anger is articulate and seems to be keenly aware of the significance of sentence structure to her story. I have read so many books that have had either poor or no editors. Fortunately, this isn't one of them. Each chapter kept me wondering about and trying to predict the next events in the love triangle and mystery. I understand that there may be two more books to make this the first in a series. However, this is almost complete enough on its own.
